eXplore! is an independent funding initiative dedicated to bringing entrepreneurial and research thinking closer together by supporting practice-oriented research projects in the fields of Entrepreneurship & Innovation, Internationalization & Growth, and Austria as a Business Location.

At the heart of eXplore! is the goal of fostering closer collaboration between Austria’s leading academic research and its business community. Through a wide range of projects and activities, the initiative aims to bridge the gap between theory and practice and thereby contribute to strengthening Austria as a business location.

As part of this initiative, research projects in the areas of entrepreneurship, innovation, and Austria as a business location are being funded with a total of EUR 11 million over a period of ten years. This makes eXplore! one of the largest private funding initiatives in Austria’s higher education sector.

The Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU Vienna) was the first cooperation partner to join the initiative. A total of 16 researchers across four institutes are conducting research on topics including the relevance of digital technologies for industry (IndustrialTech), the factors driving successful business expansion and internationalization, and the role of corporate headquarters in shaping Austria as a business location.

In addition, eXplore! supports the development of related teaching formats and runs an annual Business Case Challenge, which provides a hands-on and engaging way to demonstrate how entrepreneurial ideas can be translated into practice.

Daniel Keinrath and Matthias Gruber founded fonio.ai in September 2024 with the aim of reducing the workload for small and medium-sized businesses with high call volumes. The platform enables businesses to create a customized AI phone assistant within minutes—one that is available 24/7 and can engage in natural conversations.

fonio.ai supports both inbound and outbound calls and provides dedicated phone numbers that can be obtained directly through the platform.

Since its official launch in September 2024, the startup has already gained more than 2,000 customers and automates over 800,000 phone calls per month. In September, fonio.ai acquired Linz-based competitor fluently.

Heizma was founded by Alexander Valtingojer, Valentin Perkonigg, and Michael Kowatschew. United and driven by the belief that real change can only be achieved through innovation and decisive action, they came together to develop a solution to one of the most pressing challenges of our time: heating in private households, which is considered the third-largest climate challenge in Europe.

As a neutral intermediary connecting 280,000 retailers with 12 million consumers each month, the platform covers a wide range of product categories—from hardware and consumer electronics to sporting goods, cosmetics, toys, and much more.

Based on comprehensive filters and features, Geizhals provides purchasing and price guidance for more than 2.6 million products across 14 main categories and more than 130 additional categories.

In 2000, Geizhals was incorporated as Preisvergleich Internet Services AG. In addition to Austria and Germany, the platform also provides consumers in the United Kingdom and Poland with valuable guidance for their purchasing decisions. In 2021, Geizhals acquired tarife.at.

Konica Minolta Business Solutions Austria is shaping the intelligently connected workplace and supporting its customers as a technology and managed services provider throughout the digital era, creating added value from data. With smart office solutions such as market-leading printing systems, cloud services, and IT solutions, the company supports, among other things, mobile working and the optimization and digitalization of business processes.

spusu is an Austrian mobile network provider operating on the Drei network. The company was founded in 2015 by Dipl.-Ing. Franz Pichler, who remains its owner and Managing Director. Under the motto “Mobile communications without hidden costs,” spusu offers premium-quality mobile plans at affordable prices. Since entering the market, the company has received multiple industry awards, including several test winner distinctions.

A key focus is on excellent customer service, with the vast majority of customer inquiries resolved within just a few minutes. Since 2021, spusu has also strengthened its role as a technology pioneer by expanding regional fiber-optic infrastructure, using its own construction teams and vehicle fleet.

Founded in 1950, ÖWG Wohnbau is the largest non-profit housing provider in Styria. The company develops both subsidized and privately financed housing in the forms of ownership, rental, and rental with a purchase option.

fynk was founded in April 2022 by Constantin Wintoniak, Dominik Hackl, and Markus Presle. Today, the SaaS company employs 16 people in Vienna. fynk is a simple, modern contract management platform designed for creating, reviewing, signing, and analyzing contracts at scale.

The platform enables companies to move away from static contracts stored in different locations and formats and instead make the valuable data contained in their contracts centrally accessible and usable. With fynk, contract documents become searchable, reusable, and trackable. Today, fynk serves more than 100 international companies as customers.
